6×6 film scan (Ilford FP4)
Psychiatric hospital “Giuseppe Antonini”, commonly known as Mombello’s hospital was built in 1863 in Limbiate, close to Milan.
In 1978 a law in Italy (Basaglia’s law due to the name of the doctor who inspired its principles) issued the closure of the psychiatric hospitals and also Mombello was slowly abandoned. Nowdays the area is still abandoned and hugely vandalized.
An inmate of this hospital, dead in 1942, was Benito Albino Dalser. He was the illegitimate son of the italian dictator Benito Mussolini. He was sectioned in the hospital and died in unclear circumstances.
